Dealing with Adversity

“The secret of leadership is simple: Do what you believe in. Paint a picture of the future. Go there.People will follow.”― Seth Godin, Tribes: We Need You to Lead Us

My new favorite leader is Debbie Sterling. She created Goldie Blox™, an award-winning engineering toy for girls that combines a girl's natural love of storytelling with a construction set.As one of a very small number of females in engineering school, Debbie Sterling realized how hard it was to not fit in. And she decided to create a different future so that our daughters do not have the same experience that we did when they get to college.I love how Ms. Sterling dealt with adversity:

  • She didn't give up when engineering school was tough, and instead worked even harder to earn her degree.

  • She approached toy companies when her idea wasn't accepted by a tech accelerator.

  • When toy companies refused to see her vision, she created a Kickstarter campaign and got her own funding to make Goldie Blox™ a reality.

I can tell you what my daughter is getting this Christmas! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FEeTLopLkEo
