Expressing Gratitude

This time of year our thoughts often turn to reflection on what we have accomplished and to thanking those people who have helped us along the way.Recognition is priceless and can be inexpensive. What matters is that the expression of gratitude is heartfelt and personal.Think about a time when someone sincerely thanked you. How did it make you feel? What was it that made that expression of gratitude so memorable? How can you replicate that person's gesture to ensure that the individuals who made a dramatic difference in your life this year know that they are appreciated? Here are some simple ways you can thank your Communities of Practice, trusted SMEs, Sponsors, and Champions:

  • Visit their workspaces to say thank you in person. For virtual team members, use Skype.
  • Hand-written thank you note
  • Paid afternoon off work

As is true of good gift-giving, the key is to think about what will make the recipient feel appreciated. Depending on what they value, you may want to tailor your approaches for each team member you want to thank.Happy Holidays!
